Mike is one of the leading authorities on global sports market intelligence. He established Sportcal in 1991 and has been at the forefront of sport news, media, sponsorship and events ever since. Before establishing Sportcal he was an active athlete competing at a national, county and club level and ranking in the UK’s top 20 at 3000 meters steeplechase in 1995.Mike has a combined honours degree in Geography and Economics from Exeter University. He spent his early career working as an IT analyst, developing trading systems for commodities such as oils. He combined these three passions – economics, IT systems and sport to launch Sportcal.

He was appointed independently from Sportcal as the lead consultant to ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) in 2011 and has been working closely with 28 summer Olympic sports to help them develop a common data platform to provide content to the Olympics and other multi-sport events.
